A series of Travel Grants is offered by the GASG for students to attend conferences relating to gas sensing and instrumentation, either in the UK or abroad. The student will normally be a post-graduate pursuing a research project relevant to gas sensing or instrumentation, but undergraduates are not excluded. In either case, preference will be accorded to students presenting papers at the conference in question, but attendance alone may be acceptable given the availability of funds. The student will be required to present a short account of the conference and his/her part in it at the next GASG Colloquium after that conference.
An application
should be made in the form of a letter by the student’s supervisor to the GASG
chairman* giving details of the student, the project, and the conference. A clear costing should be given in terms of
a second class train fare or a car mileage allowance of 30p per mile for UK venues,
or tourist class air fares in the case of overseas locations.
Whereas the prime
purpose of the grant is for travel, the GASG Committee may consider
applications for other valid costs such as registration fees, but in no case
will the maximum sum awarded exceed £1000 per student.
